Confidence growing in Motormen camp says Eaton

Redbridge joint-manager Ricky Eaton claims his team are confident of picking up points now, starting against Haringey & Waltham on Saturday.

The Motormen, relegated from the Ryman North last season, have struggled to adapt to life in the Essex Senior League so far, losing their first three games of the season.

But they picked up their first point last weekend against West Essex, before falling to a 1-0 loss against derby rivals Barkingside on Monday.

Redbridge host their fellow strugglers this weekend and Eaton believes the squad is now ready to start performing.

“We’re looking to get a result on Saturday as we’ll have all our players available,” said Eaton.

“Now we have settled, we are confident that we can get a result from every fixture now. The Barkingside fixture came a little too soon for us, but from now on we go into every game with the belief we can win.

“We know that if we keep working hard, we will keep improving, and Saturday gives both teams who are going through a bad run an opportunity to pick up their first three points of the season.

“I’m optimistic we can get a result. At the end of the day it’s going to be 11 v 11, so of course we can win.

“We’ve had a bad start to the season and played all the top sides in the top six, with two weeks less preparation than everybody else.

“We lost one of our top coaches just one week in and from then we’ve been in a transformation period, but now I feel we’re ready.”

A win on Saturday would give Redbridge a good chance to make up the ground on some of their rivals, as some are in FA Cup action.

And Eaton argues that the Motormen’s quick turnaround of fixtures can work as a positive for his side, adding: “If we can get three points at the weekend then we will gain confidence and if we climb the table then we start to look up rather than looking down.

“Having games on the board isn’t a bad thing, even when you’re losing. It means that if we have a quick turnaround of fixtures we will be able to get over our performances quicker.

“We’ve had a bad start to the season, but now we feel ready and we are looking to turn it around starting from this weekend.”
