Foxes boss ‘really pleased’ to beat Bowers

Ilford manager Allan Fenn was delighted with his side’s Essex Senior League victory over Bowers & Pitsea last night and hopes his side can show consistency until the end of the season.

Fenn’s men claimed a 2-0 win over fourth-placed Bowers, thanks to goals from Glen Warwick and Wale Odedoyin, for only their second success in eight outings as they moved up to sixth.

He said: “I’m really pleased with last night’s victory – we played a very good team in Bowers.

“The scoreline could’ve been bigger, everyone was solid and consistent – all the boys played brave and showed courage.”

Ilford had visited the FA Vase semi-finalists only last Thursday and lost by a single goal, after having an effort of their own ruled out.

But after snatching a last-gasp 2-2 draw with Greenhouse at the weekend, Fenn says his side were not nervous ahead of the return clash with Bowers.

“We knew that people would come to watch the FA Vase semi-finalists last night, but they left talking about how good Ilford were,” he added.

“We went into the game knowing we could beat them, because in the last game we played them, we should’ve won as well.”

The Foxes manager says consistency is key for the team and that last night’s win will mean nothing to him, if his side do not now go on and beat Takeley on Saturday.

Fenn also believes their victory can be the start of a good end to the season for his team as he looks to get at least four wins from of the last six games.

“If we win four of the last six games left, it’ll be the highest Ilford have finished for 10 years,” he said.

“We all share the same passion and desire so we will show the same intensity whether we play Bowers or bottom-of-the-table Newham.”

Ilford lost 3-0 at Takeley when the sides met in December, but Fenn will be hoping they can set the record straight at Cricklefield Stadium at the weekend and make it back-to-back wins.
