Entertainment and activities for people of all ages will take over the park at the Mayor’s Newham Show from noon until 6pm on Saturday and Sunday.

Visitors can take part in a range of arts and craft activities as well as sports taster sessions.

This year’s experience will be complete with giant paddling pool, helter skelter, crazy golf and steel band.

The sporting activities will include a penalty shootout with West Ham United and a throwing skills activity with Essex County Cricket Club.

Saturday’s highlight is the Mayor’s Newham Carnival Parade, which attracts more than 2,000 participants each year. The parade will start from Rancliffe Road at 2pm.

Visitors can also help the borough build a community garden, which will remain permanently after the show.

Children can learn about the summer reading challenge at the mini children’s library.

In the children’s entertainment area, they can transform themselves into superheroes or learn what it’s like to be recruited as a World War 1 soldier.

There will also be a tribute to East Ham’s very own Dame Vera Lynn, with the two hour performance followed by a 1940s themed tea dance – and a prize for the person wearing the best vintage outfit.

On Sunday, visitors can expect reggae artist Nereus Joseph, The Gatsby Dancers and London School of Samba, among others.

Mayor of Newham, Sir Robin Wales said: “The show gets bigger and better every single year”.

“There will be a wide range of activities and entertainment on offer including the annual carnival procession which is always a colourful event. As well as watching the performances people will be ale to try a range of sports and crafts and find out more about the range services available from the council and out partners.

“The show plays a key role in our commitment to bring our local community together and I would urge everyone to come along and enjoy the fun at one of the borough’s biggest free events.”
