The University of East London has launched a student-led advertising agency that will provide services pro bono to east London groups.

Creative Wave will provide communication and advertising services to small businesses across east London that might not have otherwise been able to afford it.

Allan Taylor, advertising lecturer, said that after conversations with not-for-profit organisations, he found a skill gap in advertising, marketing and promoting. Creative Wave is a way to help these groups.

In return, UEL students will be able to get real-world experience.

“We want to foster longer-lasting links in the Docklands area so that the community trusts UEL and UEL students, and the students feel like they are contributing and they are citizens of this area,” Allan said.

The startup costs are being paid for with a grant from UEL’s Civic Engagement Institute.
