A counsellor and first-time marathon runner has told of her inspiration to take the leap from 10 to 40 kilometres.

Jacqueline, 25, from Forest Gate, who founded the non-profit youth empowerment organisation What You Do Matters, started running in October last year, and took part in the 10km course at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.

She’s now taking on the 26.2 mile-long London Marathon, representing youth charity Guy’s Trust, and has raised more than £2,500.

She said: “I live by the motto ‘life begins at the end of your comfort zone’, and it’s so true.

“Everything I’ve ever achieved has been when I’m uncomfortable and the London Marathon is an incredibly big challenge to take on.

“Having lived in Newham all my life, I am very passionate about giving back and supporting my community.”

Jacqueline explained that, although her training was both “physically and mentally challenging,” support from her community and sponsorship from East Ham MP Stephen Timms has been “amazing”.
