We should have won says manager

London Bari boss Chris Davis felt his team should have taken all three points from their Essex Senior League meeting with Sawbridgeworth on Easter Saturday.

The two teams battled to a goalless draw at the Old Spotted Dog, having also drawn 1-1 in the reverse fixture earlier in the season.

But Davis said it was difficult for his men to be pleased when they were the better side.

“I wouldn’t say pleased, we had control, we should’ve won. We created all the best chances and also had a couple of chances cleared off the line,” said Davis.

“I said to the boys ‘that was three points lost’. It’s difficult for us to say 0-0 was a good result when the game was ours to lose.”

Bari are set to return to action tomorrow (Wednesday) when they welcome Barking to the Old Spotted Dog, after their February fixture was abandoned at half time due to the pitch becoming unplayable during the game.

Davis added: “They are a good side and we know that, but they are not a team that will worry us. We know how they play and will go out there tomorrow and play our way.

“We were leading and comfortable, but it’ll be a case of what happens on the night. We are still looking to take the three points off Barking and I’m confident we can.”

Davis also feels as though the abandoned game cost them in more ways than one as, not only were they leading, their top goal scorer at the time got injured and hasn’t played since.

But Bari have taken nine points from a possible 18 in recent weeks and with the team playing well, the manager has hopes of a top-six finish, which is certainly within reach.

“Top six is achievable,” he said. “We have a few games in hand on the teams above us. However we know that having the points is worth more than games in hand.

“Sawbridgeworth are four places above us and have five games on us. If we win three out of the five games we have in hand, that puts us one point behind them and in place for a fifth/sixth-place finish, which was our target at the start of the season.

“60 points was the target we set at the start of the season, anything more is a bonus.”
