Romford manager Paul Martin says he plans to rotate his side ahead of their Essex Senior Cup quarter-final against Grays Athletic tonight.

Martin has regularly used the competition as a chance to rotate his side and doesn’t plan to change that policy despite a potential semi-final on the line.

“We hope to make it through, but we will definitely be rotating the squad for the game,” he said.

“The new goalkeeper James May will come in for that one, we will also bring in people who haven’t had many minutes and get them as much playing time as we can to keep their match fitness up.”

Should Romford make the semi-finals they could potentially face Football League side Colchester United, as well as Conference south sides Chelmsford City, East Thurrock United and Concord Rangers.

And Martin realises a tie away to Colchester would be a big opportunity for his players.

“It would be nice to get an away draw down to Colchester just so those who may never make it up to that level can play in a nice stadium on a nice pitch,” he added.

“So it would not be a bad thing for the club.”

However the Boro boss has some unfortunate memories of a previous meeting with the League Two club, as Romford were smashed 6-1 by the U’s in 2008.

“We played them a few years ago and got walloped,” he added.

“We went 1-0 up in the first five minutes and then we couldn’t get the ball off them for the rest of the game.”

Romford make the trip to Maldon & Tiptree in the Bostik North on Saturday after their cup endeavours on Wednesday.
