Romford boss Paul Martin has said his team ‘won’t get carried away’ after they claimed their second league win on the bounce on Saturday.

Boro celebrated a 3-2 win against local rivals Brentwood Town at Ship Lane, following their New Year’s Day success at Grays Athletic.

The home side had to come to from behind twice when Jay Knight and Connor Hammond both found the net to equalise before veteran striker Nick Reynolds headed an 87th-minute winner.

The win lifted Martin’s men three points clear of Cheshunt at the bottom of the Bostik North tbale, but the Boro boss isn’t getting excited just yet.

“We’re not going to get carried away; we’ve just got to keep plugging away,” said Martin.

“The team has to take every win we can this season. It would be nice to go on a run but we’ve got to take it game by game.”

Martin admitted just how good a late winner felt when you’re stood on the touchline.

He added: “It’s always nice to win a game, especially in the last kick of the game like that. It really got the players and the crowd off their feet.”

Romford’s victory did come as somewhat of a shock as opponents Brentwood had defeated leaders Hornchurch the previous week.

But according to Martin that’s just the nature of the league this season as he added: “It doesn’t matter who you play, it matters about who turns up on the day and that’s what I’ve said all the way through the season.

“When you consider Brentwood had beaten Hornchurch last week it shows the results in this league can be unpredictable.”

Romford host Grays Athletic in an Essex Senior Cup quarter-final on Wednesday before travelling to Maldon & Tiptree in the league on Saturday.
