Captain Hothi hoping for more success

Rainham captain Jas Hothi hailed his team’s striking comeback after they beat Burnham to hold on to sixth place in Mid-Essex League Division One.

Having beaten Stock by six wickets a week earlier, inconsistent Rainham put the visitors into bat at Spring Farm Park and dismissed them for 139.

Jon O’Neill took the bowling honours with 5-15 from his 10 overs, while Tyler Bunn (2-24) and Biren Patel (2-35) nabbed braces.

Rainham reached their target with six wickets and plenty of time to spare, as Sid Patel hit a six and six fours in his top scoring 37.

The result pleased captain Hothi, who complimented his side’s all round performance and said: “The main thing about the win was to get the consistency, we’ve now made it two wins at home back-to-back and that’s what we’re looking for.

“The win was impressive because it was a striking comeback. I think they made around 80-1, but we managed to get a few wickets before drinks and then we managed to knock them back afterwards.

“The main positive that I can take away from the game was that we got the win because at this stage we are trying to get the points on the board, I don’t really care how many overs we do it in, as long as we make the total.

“Our bowling has been strong all season and we’ve been poor with the bat, but it was nice to make the total and next week we’ll be looking to improve on it at a good ground for batting.”

Rainham visit Aythorpe Roding this weekend and Hothi hopes they can use their recent results to push on and climb the table in the closing three weeks of the season.

He added:”At the moment only a few points separate us and the teams around us, but our aim is to finish as high as possible.

“I think first and second is a little out of reach for us, so we’re aiming to finish in the third or fourth spot because that is well within our reach.”
