Romford travel to Great Wakering Rovers tomorrow (Saturday), without suspended striker Nick Reynolds, as they look to end an eight-game winless streak.

Rovers are currently eighth in the Ryman North table after their impressive 3-2 victory at Heybridge Swifts on Tuesday maintained their unbeaten start away from home this term.

Boro travel to Burroughs Park looking for only their second league win of the season, having not tasted success since their derby triumph against Hornchurch on August 12.

Boss Paul Martin is expecting another extremely tough game and said: “Great Wakering are a very physical side. They pass the ball well and are on good form. I don’t think we’ve played anyone below us yet. It’s been a tough run of games.

“The result will depend on how the boys turn up on the day. If they listen, then we can come away with a positive result.

“I believe we can get something out of the game.”

Boro were held to another goalless draw by league new boys Phoenix Sports in midweek, after the two battled to a stalemate in south London two weeks earlier.

Martin added: “The clean sheet obviously pleased me, that’s three now, in seven league games and we look comfortable at the back, which is very satisfying for me as we’ve always conceded a lot of goals.

“Now the defence is looking much more organised.”

But Romford have only scored six times in the league this season, with four of those coming in their first two games of the campaign

“My main concern is that we aren’t scoring enough goals. It’s frustrating, because we work on finishing at every training session,” added Martin.

“We have to be more clinical. You have to take your chances in this league and we’re not.”

Boro fell to a 3-1 defeat at Maldon on Saturday, where they were forced to start with Reynolds in goal due to the late arrival of Atu Ngoy.

Reece Cosson’s penalty cancelled out the home side’s early opener, but Reynolds was beaten for a second time before the break.

And although Ngoy took the gloves for the second half – as Joe Scott made way – he could not keep out a late effort as Maldon sealed the points.

Martin said: “I know it would have been a totally different game if he was there from the start. It had a big effect on the team and my tactics, of course, but we have to move on.”
