A former Colchester United player has been charged with fraud and money laundering.
Blair Turgott, an ex-West Ham youth player, will appear in court later this month after an investigation by the Metropolitan Police’s fraud and linked crime online (Falcon) unit.
Turgott, 22, of Ravensmead Road in Bromley, is facing one charge of fraud by false representation and one charge of converting criminal property.
The player made one first-team appearance for the Hammers, during the side’s FA Cup loss to Nottingham Forest in January 2014.
The U’s signed the midfielder in November 2013 for a loan spell, making his debut the next month.
In total he made four appearances for the side and scored a single goal – during his third match for the U’s in the club’s 4-0 win over Stevenage in the December 2013 League One fixture.
The winger had risen through the youth ranks at West Ham, also being loaned out to the likes of Bradford City.
He left West Ham to join Coventry City, and spent last season with Leyton Orient.
This season he is playing for Bromley in the National League.
Turgott is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Friday April 28.
