23-year-old from Bethnal Green dies after being struck by train

POLICE have arrested two people after a 23-year-old man was killed at Bethnal Green rail station on Saturday after being struck by a train travelling to Stansted Airport.
Emdad Hussain of Bethnal Green died of his injuries at the scene after being hit by a National Express East Anglia passenger train at 4.45am.
Paramedics from the London Ambulance Service administered medical treatment at the Dunbridge Street station but were unable to save Mr Hussain.
The train was not scheduled to stop at the station.
Two men, aged 21 and 22 and reported to be from the local area by a British Transport Police spokesman, were arrested late on Saturday evening and both have been bailed until January 10.
Mr Hussain’s family has been informed and is being supported by police officers.
Investigating officer, Det Chief Insp David Shipperlee, said that Mr Hussain had been at the station with a group of male friends that evening and enquiries into how he came to be on the tracks were ongoing.
Det Chief Insp Shipperlee said: “This was a tragic incident in which a popular young man lost his life.
“We are speaking to a number of witnesses and are viewing CCTV from in and around the local area to establish precisely how Emdad came to be on the railway line.
“Anyone who was in the vicinity at the time, or who has any information about what happened, is asked to get in touch.”
The station was closed following the incident and reopened at 7.45pm.
