A 36-year-old man from Ilford has been arrested in connection with the alleged assault of a pensioner on the Elizabeth line.

A video was shared on social media allegedly showing a man punching an elderly commuter in the face.

Officers from British Transport Police were made aware of the footage and reached out to the 77-year-old victim.

A spokesperson from BTP said: “Following a number of enquiries, they (officers) made contact with the victim and this morning (9 May) arrested a man in connection with the incident."

The victim did not require hospital treatment, the spokesperson added. 

She said: "The man was taken into police custody where he will be interviewed".
