Young quizzers have been crowned the brightest brains in the country after winning a quiz at Oxford University.

Devonshire House Prep School, Hampstead won the Quiz Club UK general knowledge championship, which is for primary age children with teams comprising a player from Years 3 to 6.

The Devonshire House team, made up of pupils aged 7 to 11, were selected for their excellent wide-ranging knowledge and specialist expertise.

After beating hundreds of schools in the regional heats and semis, the team travelled to the University of Oxford to compete in the national finals with 37 other schools.

Devonshire House headteacher Henry Keighley-Elstub said: “I couldn’t be more proud of our team.

“They worked incredibly hard to prepare, reading everything they could lay their hands on and quizzing teachers, family and friends.

“Even more impressive was the way they supported each other throughout the competition and helped to steady each other’s nerves as they progressed. It was an excellent team effort.”
