A unique circular 50ft mural has appeared between the skyscrapers at Canary Wharf adding a splash of colour to South Quay.
The hand-painted art-piece has been create by Lydia Hamblet as “a testament to art transforming urban spaces”.
The Royal College of Art graduate won the Clifford Chance commission to create the mural in Britain’s largest outdoor public art collection.
“This mural is inspired by its surroundings,” Lydia said. “The calm waters of the docks, the green parks and the vibrant cityscape is more than solely interpreting a specific narrative.
“I encourage people to connect with memories they see in my art in their own way.”
Lydia borrows “the very British theme” of weather for her mural to prompt personal memory or feeling from passers-by.
The hand-painted piece is the latest addition to Canary Wharf’s collection of 100 artworks. It is the only hand-painted work in the collection and the only piece created on-site by an artist.
Other works include sculptures and architectural works by world-renowned artists like Henry Moore, Camille Walala, Helaine Blumenfeld and Yinka Illori.
