The police watchdog has confirmed it will not be probing a crash involving a police van and a girl in Bethnal Green.

A spokesperson for the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) has confirmed the case will be dealt with in a local investigation.

It follows an incident on January 3 in which a teenage girl, believed to be 17, was in collision with a marked police van.

The crash, in Bethnal Green Road at the junction with Vallance Road, came after the police van had been called to an emergency after a car allegedly failed to stop for police in Glen Mews.

The girl was treated for a shoulder injury in hospital.

The IOPC spokesperson said: “Following an assessment of the referral we decided that the matter should be subject to a local investigation by the force.

"The IOPC will retain a level of oversight upon the conclusion of the force’s investigation as its final report will be submitted to us for review.
