The best gastropubs in the UK have been named and 16 of them are in London. 

Estrella Damm's top 100 gastropubs see more than 100 industry professionals who are key people in the hospitality industry vote for the list.

As the website explains: "Our judges come from leading pub businesses, editors of media brands and food writers who are geographically spread across the UK to ensure no regional bias.”

Across the list of 100 best gastropubs, 16 in London were named, including the likes of The Red Lion and Sun in Highgate, Canton Arms in Stockwell and Brook House in Fulham to name a few.

The Red Lion and Sun in Highgate were described as a "refreshing, some would say New England boathouse, feel with white walls and light wood furniture" by the voters.

Adding that its menu offers "rich with “rustic, modern British pub food”, with meats supplied by Highgate Butchers and all other produce carefully sourced from respected producers."

On Tripadvisor, it has a rating of 4.5/5 as one user said it was the best in the UK: "Our first time at The Red Lion & Sun. Absolutely fabulous food, service, atmosphere and value for money. Heath and the team were amazing. Voted Best Gastro Pub in the UK - 100% deservedly. Can't wait to go back"

South London-based Canton Arms is said to be great for beer lovers with offerings of "oxtails cooked in Guinness, with pumpkin and rosemary."

You can also enjoy the likes of "flavoursome meat dishes including a curried lamb pie with buttered greens, a seven-hour Salt Marsh lamb shoulder served with potato and olive oil gratin."

The Clarence Tavern in Stoke Newington placed 84th and has food with bold flavours including harissa roasted carrots, herb tahini and almond to smoked cod’s roe and pickled cucumber on toast to burrata and marinated rainbow chard.

On Tripadvisor The Clarence Tavern has a 4/5 rating with one visitor sharing: "Thank you for a great meal. Fantastic service. We had a very attentive waiter who was lovely and made it a special evening."
