Two people have been taken to hospital after a security guard was allegedly assaulted in Penge.

Officers were called to reports of shoplifting at a supermarket in Croydon Road just after 8.10pm yesterday (May 12).

London Ambulance Service crews also attended and found two people injured.

They were treated at the scene before being taken to hospital where their conditions are unknown.

A woman was later arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm and shoplifting.

It is unknown which supermarket the incident took place at.

A spokesperson for London Ambulance Service said: “We were called at 8.11pm yesterday (12 May) to reports of an assault in Croydon Road, Penge.

“We sent two ambulance crews and two paramedics in fast response cars to the scene.

“We treated two patients at the scene and took them to hospital.”

The full Metropolitan Police statement says: “Police were called to a supermarket on Croydon Road on Sunday, 12 May at 20:07hrs to reports of shoplifting and an assault on a security guard.

“A woman has been arrested for GBH and shoplifting. Enquiries are ongoing.”
