GP surgeries in Tower Hamlets are set to be refurbished.
The Albion Health Centre in Whitechapel and the Wapping Health Centre in Wapping will be refurbished to create three new clinical rooms each.
This will allow for an extra 33,000 and 16,500 appointments a year respectively, according to the NHS.
The work is part of a wider project to modernise and expand several GP surgeries in north east London.
The project was given the green light after more than £3.3 million worth of funding was secured from the Department of Health and Social Care.

Work on the improvements is expected to be completed by the end of this year.
Sarah See, managing director of primary care at NHS North East London, said: "We are thrilled to receive the funding that will improve GP health facilities across north east London and are looking forward to working with the practices to implement these plans.
"Once completed, patients will be able to notice the benefits, with more face-to-face appointments that will additionally take pressure off other local healthcare providers."
