Globe Primary School and Rachel Keeling Nursery to merge

Globe Primary School in Gawber Street and Rachel Keeling Nursery School in Morpeth Street have confirmed they will amalgamate to become an all-through primary school for children aged 3 to 11 years old from September this year.

Tower Hamlets Council's cabinet approved the plans after a consultation found 94 per cent of people supported them.

During a meeting, lead member for education, youth and lifelong learning, Maium Talukdar said: "The consultation process has been thorough, transparent and inclusive, with the majority of respondents strongly in favour of the proposal."

Globe Primary will continue as a school for pupils aged 3 to 11 (Image: Google) A council report added: "This will benefit children’s education by maximising the resources available and optimising the expertise of staff across the nursery and primary age range, providing outstanding nursery practice alongside top quality primary education in a single setting.

"This will help protect our outstanding quality nursery provision, which is otherwise struggling to be financially sustainable."

The amalgamation will involve the technical closure of Rachel Keeling Nursery School and the expansion of the nursery provision at Globe Primary to accommodate the displaced Rachel Keeling pupils.

Globe will continue as a primary school for pupils aged 3 to 11, whilst the Rachel Keeling site will continue to be used to provide the nursery provision for the amalgamated school.

The Rachel Keeling site will continue as nursery provision for the amalgamated school (Image: Google) Both Globe Primary and Rachel Keeling Nursery Schools and a spokesperson from the council told this paper in a joint statement: “The merging of Globe Primary and Rachel Keeling Nursery Schools aims to provide smoother transitions for children and make better use of resources and staff across both educational settings.

“Joining the two sites, which are both rated 'outstanding' by Ofsted, will also help to ensure high-quality education is maintained and make the nursery provision more financially sustainable.

“A full consultation with the community informed the decision to merge the nursery and school. We are committed to supporting staff and families throughout the process to make any transition as smooth as possible.”

The amalgamation will come into effect on September 1.
