The six properties going up on the site of a disused block of garage lock-ups are part of a Tower Hamlets Council scheme for more than 100 new homes in the neighbourhood.
The council’s cabinet member for house-building, Kabir Ahmed, visited the site in Buckhurst Street, off Cambridge Heath Road, with deputy mayor Maium Talukdar to see the work in progress and get an update from Elkins construction company.

“This is so important for people who are living in severely overcrowded conditions,” Cllr Ahmed said.
“These new homes are going to make a huge difference to the families who move into them, improving their quality of life enormously.”
The properties are due to be ready in the New Year, for families on the council's ever-growing waiting list, as part of a programme for 4,000 more homes now given the go-ahead.
