A two-day free dog festival helping the campaign to feed ‘Pets in Need’ through the rising cost of pet food is returning to Bethnal Green for its second year.
It takes place at Weavers Field next weekend, September 13 and 14, as Tower Hamlets Council ‘takes the lead’ with its programme promoting the East End as a dog-friendly place to be.
A dog food product is being donated to the RSPCA this year for every pet owner who turns up, to help stock its food bank for pets in need, while all proceeds from the festival café are being donated to the animal charity.
The festival was launched last year by Amazon and attracted 3,500 pet owners and their dogs.
“Pets have become cherished members of the family,” Amazon’s Sara Gallizioli said. “We recognise the role they play in the lives of ‘pet parents’ and the joy animals bring to our homes.”
A ‘good boy’ splash pool is being created for pets to play and cool down and there’s an agility park with displays where owners can try out tricks with their mutts under expert guidance.
A ‘barking heads’ retreat includes yoga for dogs — yes, the real ‘downward dog’ exercise.
Competitions include ‘dog and owner lookalike’, ‘best trick’ and ‘most inspiring stories’.
Children can also get their faces painted to look like their pets.
