Hundreds of new electric vehicle charging points will be installed in Tower Hamlets after funding was secured.
Tower Hamlets Council has received £1.2 million from the Local Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (LEVI) Fund, in partnership with Barking and Dagenham Council.
The money will be used to install more than 300 fast chargers over the next two years, with installation starting in early 2026.
This is in addition to the 2,000 charging points installed by the council earlier this year.
Councillor Shafi Ahmed, cabinet member for environment and the climate emergency, said: "The council is committed to making Tower Hamlets one of the easiest places for residents and businesses to switch to electric vehicles."
Executive mayor of Tower Hamlets, Lutfur Rahman, added: "We’re determined to make Tower Hamlets a net zero borough and to tackle the climate emergency on a local level."
He said the borough has more than 5,400 registered plug-in vehicles, which represents an increase of more than 200 per cent from the previous four years.
