A new halal butchers is set to open in a former Bethnal Green bank that has been empty for over two years.

Tariq Halal Meats is a global franchise and is opening its latest branch in Bethnal Green Road, in a premises formerly used as an HSBC bank.

The bank closed on August 22, 2023, according to Tower Hamlets Slice and has remained vacant ever since.

Sheikh Hossain is setting up the newest Tariq Halal branch and told the Advertiser that he hopes to open officially in three or four weeks' time.

Sheikh's brother, Zayd Hossain, will also be directly involved with the running of the butchers.

He said: "We’re delighted to be opening a new branch of Tariq Halal in the local area.

"It's not a normal butchers - it's a lot more refined and we're well known nationally.

"Customers can expect a premium butchers experience with 100% halal-certified meats, including HMC-approved options, all expertly prepared each day with an emphasis on freshness, traceability, and variety.

"Our goal is to offer a clean, modern, and customer-friendly meat counter - whether it’s for everyday family meals or special occasions."

Zayd explained roughly 70% of the building is decked out in butchers equipment but there is still work to be done before opening.

Tariq Halal Meats was founded in 1965 by Tariq Sheik and his father and is now a "renowned Halal meat specialist with a rich heritage in the meat trade," according to the company's website.

In a statement highlighted on the website, Tariq says: “My suppliers are the envy of my competitors; I have the best suppliers in the UK / EU renowned for the highest quality.”

The business has recently expanded into the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

There are currently 29 branches across the UK, including the Bethnal Green store, which is labelled "opening soon" online.

Zayd added: "This branch will feature a full range of cuts across lamb, beef - including wagyu, and chicken, as well as specialty and marinated ready-to-cook selections.

"The team are truly excited to bring this concept to the community."
