A man has been arrested after PAVA spray was allegedly stolen from a police officer.
Our sister site London Now reported that Metropolitan Police, London Fire Brigade, and the Joint Response Unit (Met and LAS) were pictured at the scene of an incident in Devons Road on January 19.
Today (January 21), a spokesperson from the Met confirmed that at around 3.15pm on January 18, officers were called to reports of a theft.
Police attended and attempted to speak to a suspect, a 32-year-old man.
The spokesperson said PAVA spray was stolen from one of the officers.
A man then allegedly assaulted the officers and climbed onto the roof of Southcott House.
He was safely brought down and taken into police custody before being taken to hospital for a mental health assessment.
A Met Police spokesperson said: "On Sunday, 18 January, police were called at 15:12hrs to Devons Road, E3, following reports of a theft.
"Met officers attended the scene and attempted to speak with a suspect before he stole one officer’s PAVA spray, assaulted the officers, and climbed onto a roof.
"Officers were assisted by other emergency services, and the man was safely brought down.
"The 32‑year‑old was taken into police custody, before he was taken to hospital for a mental health assessment.
"Enquiries into the circumstances are ongoing."
