A 30-year-old man is fighting for his life in hospital following a "serious assault" in Whitechapel, London Now reports.

The Metropolitan Police was alerted to the alleged incident at the junction of Whitechapel Road and Davenant Street, Whitechapel, at 3.39pm yesterday (February 28).

Officers were dispatched to the scene with the London Ambulance Service, where a 30-year-old man was found injured.

He was taken to hospital and is believed to be in a life-threatening condition, as reported by our sister title London Now.

A crime scene was set up yesterday, cordoning off an area of the pavement.

What appears to be two medical kits were seen strewn on the floor.

The Metropolitan Police has confirmed the scene remains in place.

A 21-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of grievous bodily harm.

A 27-year-old man was arrested a short time later also on suspicion of grievous bodily harm.

Both suspects remain in custody.
