A hospital trust is "working closely" with police after a patient died days after an alleged assault at a mental health centre, London Now reports.
The Metropolitan Police was alerted to an incident in Bancroft Road, Mile End, at around 10.10pm on February 28.
A 29-year-old man was discovered at the scene suffering serious injuries and was taken to hospital in a life-threatening condition.
He died in hospital on March 5, and has since been named as Abdul Said.
Another patient, 27-year-old Yunus Uddin, was charged with attempted murder on March 2.
Uddin was remanded in custody following an appearance at Thames Magistrates' Court the following day.
Tower Hamlets Centre for Mental Health is located in Bancroft Road on the site of Mile End Hospital, as reported by our sister title London Now.
While the hospital is run by Barts Health NHS Trust, the mental health service falls under the care of the East London NHS Foundation Trust (ELFT).
A spokesperson for ELFT said it is "deeply saddened" to confirm that one of its service users died in hospital following an incident at Tower Hamlets Centre for Mental Health.
They added: "Our thoughts are with their family and loved ones at this very difficult time.
"An investigation into the incident is underway. We are working closely with the police and are providing support to the individual’s relatives, as well as to other patients and staff who have been affected.
"As a police investigation is ongoing, we are unable to comment further at this time."
