As we approach May half-term, here at Young V&A we’re getting ready to welcome you for some special play, making and storytelling.
Our Play Saturdays are free, drop-in events in our Town Square, open to all ages.
For half-term on Saturday, May 23, from 1.30pm - 3.30pm, you’re invited to build playful structures and explore sound and space in an installation created by artist Yuri Suzuki.
The following Saturday, May 30, at the same time, we’ll be hosting a fun, family-friendly pop-up board game café, where you can try out a range of games and share your own unique ‘house rules’.
Come together to enjoy quality time and a little friendly competition.
On Thursday, May 28 and Friday, May 29, families can gather at The Stage at Young V&A for a sensory storytelling adventure with theatre practitioner Luke Saydon.
This magical, music-filled session invites children and carers to sing, move and imagine together as they help a ‘Curious Thinker’ discover that making a friend is a recipe for life.
These free, drop-in sessions are for families with children aged five and over, with three slots each day at 1.30pm, 2.30pm and 3.30pm.
On the same days, we’ll also be exploring design through hands-on activities in our Family Design Challenge.
Inspired by themes of friendship and Wallace and Gromit from our Aardman exhibition, families are invited to the Open Studio to make a friendship bracelet, guided by jewellery maker Bernadette Deddens.
The sessions run from midday to 4pm on May 28 and 29, with an additional slot on Saturday May 30, and are suitable for children aged five to 14.
For keen animation fans, our Community Room will be transformed into a temporary animation studio.
Children aged seven to 14 will have the chance to learn new techniques, from clay modelling to experimenting with Foley objects.
These sessions cost £15 per child and run from Thursday, May 28 to Saturday, May 30, with workshops from 11am–12.30pm and 2pm–3.30pm.
On Saturday, May 30, children with sensory differences or SEND and their families are warmly invited to a free, drop-in session in the Mini Museum within Young V&A’s Play Gallery.
This relaxed session celebrates the texture, colour and sound of objects and is designed with you and your child in mind.
Families are welcome to explore and play together with tactile and sensory materials at any time between 10.30 and midday.
