A major housing programme is set to bring hundreds of new homes to the borough.
Cabinet has approved a £143m budget for the first 10 sites under the Mayor’s Accelerated Housing Programme (MAHP), which aims to deliver up to 3,300 homes across the borough.
The decision, made by Cabinet on July 15, will see the delivery of 351 new homes in the first phase of the scheme.

Lutfur Rahman, executive mayor of Tower Hamlets, said: "This is an important milestone in delivering on our commitment to provide the genuinely affordable and family-sized homes our residents need.
"Too many families are waiting for a secure, high-quality home, and the Mayor’s Accelerated Housing Programme is a bold response to that challenge."
At least 51 per cent of homes delivered through the programme will be affordable. The council describes the MAHP as one of the largest council-led housing initiatives in the UK.
Mr Rahman said: "By approving funding for these first 10 sites, we are turning our ambition into action. We are not simply building homes; we are investing in neighbourhoods, improving public spaces and creating sustainable communities that will benefit residents for generations to come."
He also emphasised the importance of public input, adding: "Community engagement has been at the heart of this programme, and I would like to thank everyone who has taken the time to share their views.
"Those conversations are helping to shape proposals that respond to local priorities while delivering the homes our borough urgently needs."
Funding for the scheme includes £70m in grant funding from the Greater London Authority (GLA), subject to securing grants from the Mayor of London’s Affordable Homes Programme. An additional £30.6m will come from Right to Buy receipts.
At the same meeting, a £5.7m budget was approved for a new Ideas Store and One Stop Shop as part of the Bethnal Green PDC, which will also deliver 44 homes.
The council said extensive community engagement has already taken place, and further consultation will continue ahead of planning submissions. The MAHP also includes investment in public realm, biodiversity, connectivity and community infrastructure.
