Young V&A invites families to September SEND play session

Each session invites children and their families to explore a different area of the museum through creative play and workshops, exploring a wide range of design materials and techniques tailored for young people with special educational needs and disabilities and their families.

The next SEND play session will take place at Young V&A on Saturday, September 5, between 10.30am and 12pm.

Children and their carers are invited to come and explore the Mini Museum, located in the Play Gallery.

The Mini Museum is a calm and welcoming environment that celebrates the texture, colour and sound of objects.

Usually reserved for children aged 2 and under, this inclusive play session will open the space to children of any age who have additional sensory needs.

This will be a relaxed opportunity to enjoy the space and play together with tactile, sensory materials.

There is no set way to get involved, and our lovely Play Champions will be on hand throughout to support families and encourage children to make the most of the space.

The Mini Museum can be accessed via a ramp, and the building is step-free in all public areas.

Our last SEND play session took place on August 1, with a whole-family Sensory Design drop-in.

Designed for children and young people who enjoy exploring the world through touch, in this workshop we invited visitors to explore our tactile library of objects and join us for an open-ended journey of exploration where there are no wrong answers.

This activity is part of Young V&A’s Power of Play programme, a collective impact consortium which brings quality learning through play to children in Tower Hamlets.

The programme is funded by the LEGO Foundation and co-ordinated by the LEGO Group in London.

Young V&A is participating in the programme alongside the Institute of Imagination, Save the Children, EasyPeasy and Ambition Aspire Achieve.

Even if you aren’t able to attend the September SEND play session, make sure to stay tuned for information about our next ones in October and December – we can promise lots of fun in a supportive and welcoming environment!
