McDonald’s has returned to Canary Wharf with the opening of a new restaurant.

Located at 2 Trafalgar Way, the branch officially opened on September 23 and marks the fast-food giant’s return to the area after 12 years.

The 138-seat restaurant has created around 120 new full and part-time jobs and is open for dine-in, takeaway, drive-thru, and delivery.

Jon Betts, the McDonald’s franchisee behind the new branch, said: "We are delighted to be opening a brand-new McDonald's restaurant in Canary Wharf. It's a fantastic opportunity to bring McDonald's back to such a vibrant and fast-paced part of the city.

"We know this area is home to thousands of people living, working and visiting every day, and we're excited to welcome customers through our doors and introduce them to our fantastic new team."

Mr Betts began his career as a crew member and now owns and operates 16 McDonald’s restaurants across east London.

The Canary Wharf branch has been built in line with McDonald’s latest design programme and features updated technology and a layout designed to improve speed, efficiency, and customer choice.

The restaurant includes dedicated areas for different order types, a redesigned kitchen, and a courier waiting area to help staff serve both customers and delivery drivers more efficiently.

Sustainability has also been a key focus of the new restaurant. A McDonald’s spokesperson said the branch uses energy-saving LED lighting throughout, along with smart motion-sensor lights to reduce unnecessary energy use. The restaurant is also fitted with an ultra-efficient heating, ventilation, and air conditioning system to minimise energy consumption.

Recycled and recyclable materials have been used throughout the building, with ceiling tiles made from recycled content and can be recycled again at the end of their life.

Toilet signage has been created using recycled coffee beans, while wall lettering is made from repurposed McDonald’s coffee grounds.

The Canary Wharf location aims to serve the thousands of people who live, work, and visit the area each day, offering a convenient and environmentally conscious dining experience.
