A 20-year-old forced to move home after a serious house fire two weeks before his A-levels said he was left “a bit frazzled” after reading his results.

Scott Hazelwood is set to study politics at the University of Portsmouth after achieving two B grades in maths and further maths, plus a C in communications and culture.

“I’m so relieved,” he told the Advertiser, struggling for words. “Sorry, my brain’s a bit frazzled right now.”

A fire swept through Scott’s house on May 31, forcing him and his mum, who suffers from depression, out of their home.

The Tower Hamlets College student, who asked not to be photographed, said he was looking forward to life in a new city.

“I’ve been in London for 20 years,” he said. “You need to step back from time to time.”

Alison Arnaud, the College’s borough principal, said her students’ exam results “demonstrates [their] hard work and dedication.”

She said A-level students achieved a 92 per cent success rate, with all students passing exams in ten subjects including business, economics and Italian.
