ACTRESS Helen Mirren is leading British nominations at this year s Oscar s, it was announced this week. Dame Helen, who lives on the waterfront at Wapping, near the Tower of London, is nominated in the best actress category.

ACTRESS Helen Mirren is leading British nominations at this year's Oscar's, it was announced this week.

Dame Helen, who lives on the waterfront at Wapping, near the Tower of London, is nominated in the best actress category for her role as the wife of writer Leo Tolstoy in The Last Station.

Dame Helen, who already won a best actress Oscar for her portrayal of The Queen in 2008, is neighbours with comedian Graham Norton who lives nearby.

But she will be up against newcomer Carey Mulligan in An Education.

Colin Firth also leads the British nominations in the leading actor category for A Single Man.
