The hoard is being put on public display in an attempt to trace the owners, following the raid at Stanwell.

The items recovered include commemorative coins, watches, a collectible whistle and an engraved lighter—all believed to be proceeds from burglaries or thefts.

The coins include two 1977 Silver Jubilee sovereigns and a one minted in 1992 for the 300th anniversary of the Royal Chelsea Hospital.

“It’s vital that we trace the rightful owners as quickly as possible,” Pc Chris Maisey said. “We urge the public to look at pictures of the items and let us know if they recognise anything.”

The items were stolen from break-ins in east London as well as other areas of west London, Home Counties, Sussex, Suffolk, Cambridgeshire, Midlands and Yorkshire, police believe.

Householders recognising them or anyone with information about where they came from is being urged to call Surrey Police on 101, quoting reference 45140058525, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800-555111.
