Experienced Italian has replaced Andy Hessenthaler permanently and will take charge of first match on Tuesday evening

Leyton Orient have revealed this evening Alberto Cavasin is the new first team manager at the League Two club.

The Italian has agreed a two-year deal at Brisbane Road and takes over from interim boss Andy Edwards.

A former right-back during his playing career, the 60-year-old has never managed in England, but has taken charge of several Serie A teams.

Now the ex-Fiorentina and Sampdoria boss will get an opportunity to impress in the hotseat at E10.

A statement on the official club website read: “Cavasin has managed a number of clubs in Serie A during a management career spanning over 21 years, and while with Leece in 2000 picked up the Panchina D’Oro award for the Italian Coach of the Year in Serie A.”

Andy Hessenthaler was “relieved of his role as first team manager” last Monday and his assistant Edwards was placed in charge.

Edwards oversaw O’s 2-0 defeat to Plymouth Argyle on Tuesday before seeing them draw 0-0 at Barnet yesterday.

Now Cavasin is in the hotseat and when he takes charge of Orient in the EFL Trophy on Tuesday night, he will be the ninth person to manage the east Londoners since Becchetti brought the club in the summer of 2014.

The League Two outfit have also revealed Alfredo Vergori is the new head of fitness at Brisbane Road. Simone Lucchesi, who was appointed during the summer, will remain as fitness coach at Orient.

Meanwhile Edwards has now reverted back to his original role of assistant and Danny Webb remains as first-team coach.
