Italian reveals AFC Bournemouth loanee Harry Cornick will be missing, but feels O’s can still steal a result against Luton Town

Alberto Cavasin believes Leyton Orient will improve their results in League Two with hard work ahead of hosting Luton Town this weekend.

The Italian took charge of his first match at Brisbane Road last Saturday and watched Portsmouth earn a 1-0 win.

While the 60-year-old had to deal with more injury problems, the performance of the O’s was a disappointing one.

“Certainly winning helps confidence, but the development and getting better comes with working hard,” said Cavasin via a translator.

And the ex-Sampdoria boss discussed how it will take some time for the team to play the way he wants exactly.

But he did insist that doesn’t mean they can’t start improving results, although knows he’ll need some luck along the way.

“You can achieve results without giving a particular image of the type of football you want your team to play,” said the Orient manager.

“If that happens to me I need a lot of good luck and fortune with other teams not in a pretty situation, but as we say in Italy you can steal a result in a match.”

The O’s will be desperate to have a positive outcome this weekend when the Hatters come to east London.

Cavasin hasn’t seen his team score yet in his first two games in charge while Paul McCallum is the only player to find the net in the last six matches.

It is a worrying statistic especially considering the options available to the Brisbane Road outfit.

Jay Simpson top scored with 25 goals last year while McCallum has demonstrated his finishing prowess numerous times.

Ollie Palmer has shown he is capable of finding the net regularly after finishing the 2015/16 campaign strongly.

While Jordan Bowery’s record at Oxford United last season also proved he can be clinical in League Two.

Even though O’s attacking options look good on paper, recently they’ve struggled to create chances.

And what won’t help their cause is being without AFC Bournemouth winger Harry Cornick again for the visit of Luton.

Cavasin, speaking on Saturday, said: “Cornick won’t be back for the next match. He is still recovering.”
