Italian confident east Londoners can move up table after halting poor run of form at Colchester United

Alberto Cavasin believes Leyton Orient are on the correct path ahead of hosting Blackpool in League Two this weekend.

The O’s won 3-0 at Colchester United on Saturday with Jay Simpson hitting a brace and Nicky Hunt on target. It was only their second victory in eight games since the Italian took charge on October 2.

Cavasin, via a translator, said: “I have faith in the players and we have come from a place where we had a run of really bad results. We managed to turn the tables around. Having these positive reactions are all signals for me that we are heading on the correct path.

“The group is starting to become a team otherwise we wouldn’t have managed to achieve this performance at Colchester. This is why I have faith in them.”

A change in formation resulted in Orient getting back to winning ways and Simpson scoring his first goals of the campaign.

The diamond in midfield, used heavily by Ian Hendon last season before his dismissal in January, worked well.

“Our objective was to support our strikers more. It seemed to me that this formation could be the solution,” said Cavasin.

“A lot of our players have already played in this way so during the week we decided to put this into practice.”

Orient produced some wonderful football after going 3-0 up at Colchester and could have extended their lead, but Cavasin knows that O’s need more than one good display to make everything look better at Brisbane Road.

Leyton Orient Fans’ Trust will be jointly protesting with Blackpool Supporters Trust on Saturday - a decision confirmed at LOFT’s AGM last Thursday (November 10).

Both sets of supporters are unhappy with the way their club is being run and some of the east Londoners faithful will protest before the game.

The details were confirmed on Tuesday, LOFT are set to hold banners saying ‘we want our club back’ and walk from the Birkbeck Tavern at 2pm to Brisbane Road.

On Orient’s recent bad form, Cavasin said: “There have been many reasons why for one way or another we’ve not managed to achieve results, but on Saturday we put in a good performance.

“We’ve got out of a situation where we’ve struggled a lot and we know we have to build up momentum to prove we are out of that previous difficult situation and to understand what place we should be in the league table.”
