Italian reveals latest on Jay Simpson, Paul McCallum, Yvan Erichot and Aron Pollock plus Sandro Semedo

Leyton Orient manager Alberto Cavasin knows their victory at Hartlepool United is just a small step on the way to improving their season.

The O’s are now five points off the League Two play-off positions after their 3-1 win on Saturday.

Orient are only 19th, however, and a defeat at home to Crewe Alexandra this weekend could see them drop into the bottom two so their Italian boss isn’t getting carried away.

“The win is very important for confidence and this can be a turning point for the season,” said Cavasin via a translator.

“You’ve seen yourselves how the team gave its best like always with strength and courage and the hard work in the match was never lacking or during the weekly training sessions.

“This is a very important restart and we stopped the blood loss, but we know it is only the first step and now we have to find more consistency and we have a lot of things to improve on.”

Saturday’s game could have been very different had Hartlepool taken their first half chances, but Orient showed tremendous character to come from behind to win.

It was the first time the O’s had managed to claim all three points after being goal down since Boxing Day 2015 when they triumphed 3-2 at home to Portsmouth.

What was even more impressive is Cavasin managed to achieve that without key forwards Jay Simpson or Paul McCallum.

Simpson missed out after suffering a muscle problem against Luton Town on October 15 and Aron Pollock and Yvan Erichot were also absent through injury.

Cavasin added: “The latest on all four is we will probably find them in training on Monday and we’ll have to wait for more news.

“It is not anything serious and we will see how Sandro Semedo’s injury develops 48 hours after the match because it was a really bad hit on his leg, but there isn’t supposed to be any important trauma to his legs.”

Although Semedo was limping when he left the Victoria Park stadium, he wasn’t on crutches and the hope will be all five are available for the Crewe clash.
