Students of art, architecture and design have been working on ideas to regenerate run-down parts of London’s East End in time for the Olympics.
The Aldgate Project has involved 400 students from London Metropolitan University’s Faculty of Architecture and Spatial Design and the Sir John Cass Faculty of Art, Media and Design—part of the ‘High Street 2012’ scheme to improve the A11 between Aldgate and Stratford. It involves the Whitechapel Gallery, Toynbee Hall, Providence Row homeless charity, Tower Hamlets council, East End Homes and the City of London Corporation.
The project has generated 20 ideas such as short animations to be projected onto the walls of the fa�ade of a housing estate and an urban garden at Providence Row’s day centre in Spitalfields.
