The National League club have sold 3,700 season tickets for the 2018/19 campaign to date

Alex Lawless has talked up the importance of the Leyton Orient supporters ahead of the new National League campaign.

The club confirmed earlier today they have sold 3,700 season tickets for the 2018/19 term and the aim is to sell 4,000 which would break their record.

Lawless praised the support of the O’s fans and discussed how key it is for the Breyer Group Stadium to be turned into a fortress.

During the past campaign, Orient only won eight of their 23 National League games at home and lost on nine occasions in E10, which their experienced midfielder is keen to put right this time around.

“We started to make it a fortress at the beginning of last season and then it went wrong, but the support we get at home and hearing about the season ticket numbers being sold is a real boost for the lads,” said Lawless.

“Hopefully it will put a bit of fear into other teams knowing we have such great support and the confidence to play at home, so that’s the ideal and something we’ll aim to do.”

Orient will be back in front of their fans on Saturday when they host League One side Southend United in their final pre-season game of the summer.

Lawless may start after impressing during the 3-2 comeback win at Concord Rangers last weekend.

The 33-year-old played the full 90 minutes and looked strong in the middle, and then come on in the 1-1 draw at St Albans City on Tuesday night.

After missing so much of last season through injury, Lawless is determined to make a bigger contribution during the upcoming campaign.

He believes the minutes he has got already this summer will stand him in good stead for what is to come over the next few months.

“It was super frustrating last season,” said Lawless. “The lads did well at the end of last year and I just wanted to get out there and get involved.

“Saturday was my first 90 minutes for quite a while, so it was nice and I feel great and I am looking forward to the season.”
