THE controversial move to cut short the route 8 bus from Bow Church in East London to Victoria finally goes ahead on Saturday.
Both the 8 and the night-time N8 from Hainault are terminating at Oxford Circus—despite protests last year which led to a campaign to keep the East End’s Victoria connection.’
Passengers will have to change at Oxford Circus from June 27 for the C2 or 73 to continue on.
OVERCROWDED
The changes are aimed at “improving reliability” on the overcrowded route which transport bosses say gets held up in the City and West End, delaying return journeys back to East London and creating a knock on’ effect through the day.
But those using the 8 along Roman Road, Bethnal Green Road and Shoreditch High Street to the City have been unhappy that the service was being shortened rather than extra buses laid on to cater for increased passengers.
Transport for London is going green’ with its red double-deckers by reducing the number of through’ buses using the busy Oxford Street shopping mile by one-in-10 this year.
