Amnesty International is screening a documentary in east London about film-maker Bassel Shehadeh who was killed in Syria when the city of Homs was shelled last year.
The event at Amnesty’s Human Rights centre in Shoreditch on Tuesday features ‘Syria Through A Lens’, about Shehadeh’s life and work, followed by a panel discussion.
Shehadeh’s sister Maria, a TV journalist in Dubai, is attending the event to launch a freedom of expression foundation in his name to provide scholarships and grants to help youngsters in Syria get into the arts and media.
Tuesday’s free screening starts 7pm at Amnesty International UK, 17-25 New Inn Yard, off Gt Eastern Street, near Shoreditch High Street station.
