Former England captain Andrew Strauss knocked crowds for six when he turned up to meet cricket lovers in Canary Wharf last week.

Launching his autobiography ‘Driving Ambition’, the former opening batsman slogged through an afternoon session signing copies for fans.

The book tells the story of how Strauss grew from being a quiet a modest young man into one of England’s most successful and respected skippers.

He captained his country on 50 out of a total of 100 Test matches he appeared in, guiding England to victory over Australia in back to back Ashes series in 2009 and 2010.

After playing in his 100th test he retired, and is now forging a career in cricket broadcasting.

Fans queued for their copies to be signed at Jubilee Place on Thursday.
