Former Peterborough United captain wants to have no regrets after taking top job at Brisbane Road

Andy Edwards is determined to repay the support of the Leyton Orient fans after the positive reaction to his appointment last month.

When the 45-year-old was announced as manager of the Brisbane Road club on November 23, the majority of the O’s faithful were happy.

Although Edwards lost his first match in charge at Doncaster Rovers on November 26, the Orient supporters appear optimistic about the current boss, which is in contrast to when Andy Hessenthaler and Alberto Cavasin were in charge.

“It’s nice for me that those sentiments from the fans are being echoed and hopefully I can repay that faith and support along with Danny Webb,” said Edwards.

“We are working very closely together with the team to try and move the club forward and back to where it should be.

“I reiterate all the time about the importance of the players sticking together, the staff continuing to focus and for the supporters to stay loyal as they have been and really back us through thick and thin.

“There might be some more tough times ahead, but we’ve just got to make sure we keep going throughout.

“It is great the fans are backing me and ultimately they want results so if they are not seeing that then it might be a different story. I hope not, yet I understand we have to get results.”

Edwards admitted having a whole week on the training ground without the pressure of a match had been a big help.

The former O’s Academy Director was only appointed four days before the Doncaster fixture therefore had little time with the players.

“It’s been a really productive week. It’s been good for us that we haven’t had a game in some respect,” said Edwards.

“Obviously we weren’t pleased to be out of the FA Cup, but coming into the role and having a whole week free without the pressure of a match has been good.”

Although it is a fantastic opportunity for Edwards and his assistant manager Danny Webb, they appreciate the size of the challenge.

Both have impressed with Orient’s academy and will hope to now translate that success into the first team.

Edwards added: “We are going to grab the opportunity and give absolutely everything. For us we are going to have no regrets.

“Sure we’ll make mistakes along the way, but everything we do will be done with honesty and the right intentions.”
