Andy Edwards: Leyton Orient need to be better with the ball

Andy Edwards conceded Leyton Orient could have been better in possession during Saturday’s stalemate at Barnet.

The two London rivals cancelled each other out in League Two and had to settle for a share of the spoils at the Hive.

Jay Simpson had the O’s best opportunity of the match in the first half, but couldn’t beat Josh Vickers from inside the area.

Edwards took charge of the fixture before Italian Alberto Cavasin was appointed as manager yesterday and discussed what Orient need to improve on.

He said: “There is a slight lack of confidence on the back of three defeats and you come into the game and set your stall out.

“You want to be hard to play against and compact and aggressive, on the front foot and hard to break down. I thought we did that.

“In possession we need to do a bit better and find ways of getting our best players on the ball and putting the opposition under pressure. We do need to work at that.”

Although the match at the Hive wasn’t a classic, the Orient fans all applauded the players off the pitch at full time.

Edwards again reiterated the Brisbane Road club are underachieving, but knows the squad will work hard to turn that around.

“Morale is good and one thing we can’t question is the attitude and mentality of the players,” said the 45-year-old.

“They are a really good group and we said to them there is a very fine line between winning and losing and success and failure at any level.

“You see that week in, week out and at the moment we’re not quite meeting expectation or fulfilling our potential so we’ll continue to work towards that.”

The draw leaves O’s 17th in the table with 12 points from 11 games.
