Police are appealing for witnesses to the attempted murder of a woman in Middlesex Street on Sunday.
The woman, 36, was found naked and covered in blood by market traders in the doorway leading up to flats above the Fressco Lebanese restaurant.
She was taken to hospital with severe head and facial injuries and is in a serious but stable condition.
A 38-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the attack.
Police are appealing for anyone who may have seen or heard anything in the Petticoat Lane Market area between 1am and 8.45am to come forward.
