Appeal for white foster carers in Tower Hamlets

PUBLISHED: 19:36 13 May 2013 | UPDATED: 19:36 13 May 2013

More white foster carers are needed to help ensure children can be placed with families of the same ethnic background, according to Tower Hamlets Council.

Coinciding with Foster Care Fortnight, which started on Monday, the council is aiming to find at least 25 new foster carers to take children into their homes.

Judith Phillips, who has taken three children into her home, said: “I always say that even though those children are not biologically my children, the moment you come into our house we treat them as our children.

“It doesn’t mean I feel any different”.

Now the council hopes others will follow Judith’s lead by welcoming children into their homes.

Tower Hamlets’ cabinet member for children Cllr Oliur Rahman said: “Fostering a child is one of the most rewarding things a person can do.”
