Appeal for witnesses after child’s tower block fall

DETECTIVES are appealing for information and witnesses following the death of eight-year-old Leanne Minick who fell from a tower block in Bow.
Leanne fell from a window in her 15th floor flat just before 2.40pm on Saturday.
Officers were called shortly afterwards by a member of the public who saw her lying on the concrete outside Sandall House in Daling Way.
Investigating officer DI Stewart Garrick of Tower Hamlets CID said: “I appeal to anyone who witnessed the incident, or has information that can assist this investigation, no matter how small or insignificant you feel it may be, to contact us.
Leanne was described as “cheeky”, “bright” and “kind and caring” by friends, many of whom left flower or toy tributes at the base of the 20-storey block close to where she died.
Others have posted tributes on social networking site Facebook and changed their profile pictures to that of Leanne.
A non-invasive scan post-mortem was conducted at Royal London Hospital today (Tuesday).
A full post-mortem will be scheduled in due course to establish a formal cause of death.
An inquest is due to open at Poplar Coroner’s Court in Poplar High Street.
Tower Hamlets CID is investigating the circumstances of the incident, with the assistance of the SCD5 Major Investigations Team.
The death is being treated as unexplained at this time.
