An apprentice working for council building contractors and a Tower Hamlets parks department manager have received awards for going that extra mile in their jobs.

Paul Sammut was awarded the ‘best manager or mentor’ title for helping new staff in the parks service in London Councils’ apprenticeship awards held at Saddlers’ Hall in the City.

He has supported them by mentoring those under his care, motivating them to complete their qualifications onto their chosen careers.

“I love my job and seeing apprentices develop,” Paul said. “I appreciate what they can do and this award recognises the work we’ve done in the council.”

Sarah Chipperfield, who works in Willmott Dixon construction company’s planning team, has been named ‘best apprentice in the supply chain’.

Sarah is a single mum who started on a work experience placement and pushed ahead to complete her Level 2 Apprenticeship and securing full time job with the company. She is ambitious and plans to continue training and seek more senior roles.
