Former children’s laureate Anne Fine had lunch with librarians from Arnhem Wharf Primary School during a visit to celebrate World Book Day.
The award-winning author, who has written more than 40 books for children and adults, also presented assemblies about her craft to children in years two, three, four, five and six.
The Isle of Dogs school is focusing on reading for pleasure this week to coincide with World Book Day, which takes place on Thursday.
Headteacher Sara Haynes said: ‘I’m sure Anne Fine’s visit has inspired the children to extend and broaden their reading. There is a lot of recent research which shows that children who read for pleasure are more successful in their learning than children who don’t.”
Author and illustrator Petr Horacek is running mural workshops at the school on Thursday.
